On Saturday, September 12, 2015, The Hill Community Development Corporation, will partner with other organizations to host the UpHill 5K Walk/Run in the Hill District. The race will begin at Freedom Corner (1800 Block of Centre Ave and Crawford Street) at 9:00am and will proceed up Centre Ave. The route features a turnaround point at Aliquippa Street and will finish back at Freedom Corner. The Award Ceremony will take place at Freedom Corner immediately following the conclusion of the race. Registration will begin at 7:30am and free parking will be provided at the Melody Tent Lot of the Console Energy Center begin at 7:00 am. This year’s race embodies the theme “Celebration of Life”. As we participate in this run/walk to improve our health, we will also use this opportunity to acknowledge the increase of street violence in our communities, pray for peace, recognize lost loved ones and make a pledge to value life. Health and Wellness Weekend
From September 11th-13th, 2015, the "Peoples Office" will host the 3rd Annual Health and Wellness Weekend. This event is strategically designed to unite various communities throughout the 19th Legislative District for the purposes of building relationships and the distribution of information regarding resources available to encourage/empower all citizens to live healthier lifestyles.
The 2015 Health and Wellness Weekend consist of numerous events and activities with the goal of educating and inspiring members of the community. It embodies a holistic approach, focusing on the enhancement of our mental, physical, economic, environmental, and spiritual health. This event has previously attracted over 1,000 registered participants; 2015 registration is expected to increase significantly. The 2015 Health and Wellness Weekend event will begin on Friday with a free day for families at the Thelma Lovette YMCA from 10am-7pm. Friday night we will host the Opening Night Reception at the Blue Line Grill from 5:30pm to 8:00pm. On Saturday at 9am we will have an UpHill 5K Walk/Run hosted by the Hill CDC, culminating with the Community Appreciation Day at Kennard Field from 12pm to 6pm that includes an Employment Resource Center, free food, petting zoo, community exhibitors, games, entertainment and prize giveaways. To close out the weekend, we will host a Health Expo on Sunday from 1pm to 4pm at the Thelma Lovette YMCA that will offer various health screenings, healthy cooking demonstrations, fun physical competitions, live music, and more. This year we hope you will join us for a fun, informative, and empowering weekend of events that will provide exposure to new concepts and resources that promotes a healthier sustainable lifestyle!
